After nearly 70 years without a significant refresh, the University of Washington Art Building is seeing some major changes. The highly anticipated Art Building Renovation—part of the UW’s Arts Capital Campaign—will improve community engagement and better support art students and faculty.

Two key components of this GLY + Mithun design-build project include moving the Jacob Lawrence Gallery from the north corner of the building to a more accessible location near the high-traffic quad and incorporating gallery programming into the Solomon Katz courtyard. Students and faculty will also enjoy renovated art studios, woodshop, classrooms, lab, offices and support space.

To accommodate the many changes, construction scope of work includes abatement and non-structural demolition, new walls, ceilings, and finishes, equipment installation, and MEP infrastructure updates.
