A Seattle icon is getting a new lease on life. The monorail station at Seattle Center—built for the 1962 World’s Fair—is undergoing upgrades to make it safer, more accessible, and ready for today’s crowds. Carrying over two million riders each year, the station remains a vital link between Seattle Center and Westlake Center.

The GC/CM renovation brings the station fully up to ADA standards while adding fire and life safety upgrades, system improvements, and targeted repairs to extend its life. Key highlights include a new accessible ramp connecting the station to Thomas Street and upgraded guardrails and gates to make queuing safer and more efficient for larger crowds.

Phased construction over 15 months, beginning after the FIFA World Cup, keeps at least one train in service at all times, allowing the monorail to keep serving the community throughout construction.
