Vulcan Block 43 | Allen Institute | Seattle

The 271,000 square foot high performance life science research facility houses the Allen Institute for Brain Science and Allen Institute for Cell Science, allowing them to consolidate their operations from several buildings in Fremont into one single operation in South Lake Union. At seven stories, the building includes 9,000 square feet of ground level retail and 3.5 levels of below-grade parking. The podium level consists of a six-story atrium flanked by scientific program areas, offices, and an auditorium. Level 7 serves as the building’s massive mechanical penthouse.

The historic Ford and Pacific McKay buildings, which were once on site and carefully placed in storage during the reconfiguration of the Mercer corridor, are incorporated back into the new building for retail services and Vulcan’s new non-profit institution, Pivot Art + Culture.
