Expansion of UW Valley Medical Center’s existing urgent care clinic at the high-traffic Renton Landing features seven new exam rooms, increased procedure space, lab/draw, soiled utility, and clean meds. Upgrades included MEP systems, new slab and flooring, and specialty finishes to meet VMC standards.

Logistical challenges

Project included renovation of operational employee break room in existing clinic, which staff used as the entrance and exit. Renovation was completed in one week to minimize the impact to the existing clinic. Provided temporary protections for staff to access the break room while it was under construction.

Adding Value Through Collaboration

Upon investigation of existing conditions, we discovered that the original plan for correcting the wall condition would require moving a large amount of MEP utilities—a huge cost impact to the project. We worked with structural engineer and surgical lighting manufacture [Stryker] to come up with an installation plan for a steel sub structure that was half the cost of the utility relocation. It also provided a stronger support that is easy to modify to hang other items in the future.

  • Required infection control measures
  • Occupied clinic adjacent to construction
  • Coordinated vibration and noise-sensitive work around operations of adjacent clinic
  • Coordinated owner-provided vendors + equipment
