Bellevue NE 8th Tunnel

Working with a primary tunnel contractor, GLY completed an underground tunnel connecting Bellevue’s Lincoln Square and Bellevue Place, effectively taking hundreds of thousands of vehicle trips off the surface streets between the two facilities. Another benefit is the additional access to parking for people visiting and working at The Bellevue Collection. The tunnel features two lanes of auto traffic and two lanes of pedestrian traffic.

Construction involved boring 32 horizontal steel spilings under NE 8th from north to south, forming an arch. 2,154 cubic yards of soil was excavated under the spilings horizontally using an excavator called a road header.
