GLY recently completed construction of 2005 Poplar in Issaquah, WA. After a 123-unit Homewood Suites, the building is the second mid-rise to open since developer Rowley Properties and the City of Issaquah signed a long-term development agreement, which aims to make this part of the city’s valley floor much more dense. more>

DJC: Rowley Set to Open New 2005 Poplar Offices in Issaquah

Occupancy for Rowley Properties’ 2005 Poplar office building is projected for October. The four-story development broke ground on a speculative basis about a year ago. The design, by VIA Architecture, makes extensive use of cross-laminated timber, lowering the project’s carbon footprint. GLY built the hybrid project, which has a steel frame and glass curtainwalls. more>

425Business: The Business of Issaquah

Issaquah’s landscape has several prominent new additions including Rowley Properties’ 2005 Poplar. The four-story office building just off I-90 features a cross-laminated timber [CLT] ceiling and CLT stairs and wall inside a glass-enclosed stairwell. This “irresistible stairway” is designed to encourage use over the elevator and will illuminate at night to create a gentle glow and landmark. more>

Architectural Record: The Beach at Expedia Group by Surfacedesign

The 2.6 acre “Beach” at Expedia Group’s new campus on the shores of Seattle’s Puget Sound is open to the public. Though intended for outdoor meetings, the Beach has been hosting small musical performances, yoga, and other open-air activities. In addition to an open air space to encourage more time in nature, the park features separated bike and pedestrian paths for a safer commuter experience. more>

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance [SCCA] announced the start of its 150,000 square-foot outpatient cancer treatment center on its South Lake Union campus. Connected via skybridge to its existing treatment center, the new tower will be the largest single construction site project in the alliance’s history. more>

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance [SCCA] broke ground on a new six-story, 150,000 square-foot outpatient cancer treatment clinic on its South Lake Union Campus. The U District Station is nearing final form, with light rail service expected to begin in the fall of 2021. On top of the station, LPC West and Perkins+Will are planning a 13-story office tower for the University of Washington. UW owns the air rights above the station, and it’ll lease back the office tower from LPC West. GLY will build the project, called the U District Station Building. more >

Geekwire: Inside Amazon’s New 8-floor Family Homeless Shelter

Amazon and Mary’s Place announced the official opening of the Mary’s Place Family Center in The Regrade. The 8-floor, 63,000-square-foot facility with the capacity to serve 200 people per night and more than 1,000 family members per year is attached to one of Amazon’s new office buildings in downtown Seattle.  Mary’s Place began accepting families in March and has been a critical option for those experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic. more >

Amazon: Mary’s Place Opens WA State’s Largest Family Shelter

Mary’s Place and Amazon announced the opening of the Mary’s Place Family Center in The Regrade, a one-of-a-kind, permanent family shelter built inside an Amazon office building [Block 21] with capacity for up to 200 moms, dads, and children experiencing homelessness each night. The shelter, which began housing families at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in Seattle, is expected to support more than 1,000 family members per year. more >
