The Masonry Institute of Washington celebrated 15 projects at its Excellence in Masonry Design Awards banquet. The Ford and Pacific McKay Building reconstruction earned the top award for Modernization + Restoration as well as the Design Integrity Award. The Registry: BioMed Realty’s Grand Opening of Lab Suites

BioMed Realty held its grand opening on Tuesday for its newly renovated laboratory space, located at Seattle’s downtown waterfront on the second floor of the Omeros Building. The Labs @ Elliott include five new spaces of various sizes which offer the flexibility for growth that is appealing to a smaller-sized or start-up life science company. more >

SWCN: Getting Ready — Water Goes in Pool at YMCA

GLY will turn the new Stanwood-Camano YMCA building over to the Y in mid-August. Cardio equipment, an Olympic sized pool, a Lazy River, hot tub and warmer two-lane leisure pool will be ready for guests on the September 3 opening date. more >

Demolition crews started work on the former home of KING 5 Television. It’s the beginning of a five week long process, and prompted curious onlookers to stop for a quick photo. The site will eventually be home to two 12 story mixed use towers. more >

DJC: Kids’ Museum Opening in January in Former Doll Museum

KidsQuest Children’s Museum is opening its new location at the former home of the Rosalie Whyel Museum of Doll Art. The move allows the interactive museum to double its exhibit space to 10,000 square feet and add hands-on exhibits and expanded opportunities for children ages 6-9 years. more >

Stanwood-Camano YMCA

Construction is more than 70% complete and will soon be entering the finishing and furnishing stage, with the target date of August 9 for substantial completion. The project is on budget and within a few days of schedule. more >

Stewardship Partners: Google Teams up with Vulcan

The new Google office buildings are targeting Salmon-Safe and LEED Gold certifications. This project demonstrates how Salmon-Safe complements LEED by going beyond its requirements to achieve higher ecological function in an urban environment Salmon-Safe program. BioMed Realty held a grand opening on 3.24 for the new Vue Research Center at 500 Fairview Ave, as it created one of the largest life science hubs in the South Lake Union neighborhood with a total of 223,000 square feet of state-of-the-art real estate. more >

Google will be joining the South Lake Union neighborhood. Vulcan plans to add four 6-story office buildings for the tech company along with two residential towers eight or nine stories above the office podiums. Project team includes GLY, Graphite Design Group and Runberg Architecture Group. more >

Vulcan announced it will develop four new office buildings for Google on Valley Street across from Lake Union Park in Seattle. The six-story buildings will have a total of 607,000 square feet of office space topped with market-rate apartment towers. Seattle Times: Google Plans Big Expansion in South Lake Union

Google will occupy six stories in four office buildings developed by Vulcan Real Estate. There will be 14,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floors., and two of the buildings will be topped with eight to nine stories of apartments — 151 units in total. more >

Expedia showed the “initial design vision” for its future campus on Seattle’s waterfront, where 4,500 people will work starting in 2019. GLY has been hired as the general contractor on the job.
